I think they are dead. Any Way the Wind Blows is a thick book in comparison to its middle predecessor, Wayward Son, and that's for good reason. The ending was real in my opinion. Yippee, a happy ending! JS to me was a consistent character. And the "softy" villain wasn't so much a softy as an audience fave.
